Crest CSR: Building Better Schools

Over 600 million Indians do not have access to basic sanitation facilities. In fact, the lack of proper toilets in schools is one of the main reasons why adolescent girls drop out, especially in rural and small town India.

At Crest, we firmly believe that the only path to empowerment is education. And, the only way to achieve quality education is to build proper infrastructure for it. While smart classrooms are the way forward, it has no meaning when basic hygiene facilities are missing. This is the driving thought behind Plan India’s School WASH Project, which we are proud to help realise through crucial funds and support. The WASH Project aims to provide clean drinking water and proper restrooms to schools in need. Its flagship installation was completed in March 2016 at Pune based Zilla Parishad Primary School in Gopalpatti, Manjari and Kai Shri Vasantrao Vaidya School in Rajendra Nagar. During the course of the project, members of our CSR team personally visited the schools to inspect the new facilities and assess the overall impact of the project.

An official handover ceremony marked the successful completion of the project, where the staff and students held an interactive discussion on hygiene and sanitary health. Simple interventions such as these make a world of difference at the grassroots, and at Crest, we’re happy to be a part of this world.
